In Japan, from the end of World War II until 1996, at least 80,000 people underwent sterilisation or abortion under laws promoting eugenics.
Meanwhile, as previously reported, thanks to the efforts of medical professionals, progress has been made in protecting the right to life of people with severe mental and physical disabilities through the health insurance system.
It is impossible to comprehend the gap between these two facts fully. However, I believe there is no doubt that once a life is born, they should be protected as much as possible, regardless of their consciousness or the ability to self-determine.
