'A simple, scalable hospital program improved hand hygiene, sped up sepsis treatment, and reduced severe maternal infections by 32%, per a trial conducted in Malawi and Uganda [https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2512698] that demonstrates the lifesaving potential of small interventions even in resource-limited settings. COMMENT (NPW): These interventions have been recognised for years, even decades. My interpretation of the research is that it demonstrates the lifesaving potential of small interventions *especially* in resource-limited settings.

The reality in most resource-limited settings is that these basic life-saving interventions are not being routinely implemented.
