Every year, on the second Thursday of October, the world pauses to think about something most of us take for granted: our sight.

This October 8 is World Sight Day, and as a member of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), KnowTheGlow is joining that global conversation.

Our part of it is simple: helping families recognize The Glow — an unusual white, silver, or golden reflection in a child's eye, often first noticed in flash photos, dim lighting, or even on baby monitors. It can be an early warning sign of retinoblastoma, Coats disease, congenital cataracts, and other serious childhood eye conditions.

More than 80% of childhood blindness is preventable or curable when caught early. That statistic is why we do what we do. And it's why we need people like you.

Here's how you can help this World Sight Day:

* Download and share our free graphics here http://knowtheglow.org/world-sight-day-2026/.

* Post about The Glow on your own social channels using #WorldSightDay2026 #LoveYourEyes

* Talk to the parents in your life about checking flash photos for The Glow

You don't need to be an expert. You just need to help one more person learn what to look for.

Thank you for being part of this with us.

[*Note from HIFA moderator (NPW): Retinoblastoma is a fundamentally different disease from cataract, with distinct aetiology, clinical implications and management requirements. However, the message above from KnowTheGlow raises a question: what is the potential of simulation-based training for the treatment of eye diseases other than cataract? I look forward to your comments.]
