Hello,
Eight years ago, after losing my daughter Finley to Group B Strep just one day after she was born, I felt completely alone. I had never heard of Group B Strep before my pregnancy except that I was told I had tested negative at 36 weeks. I believed that meant my baby was safe.
After Finley died, I found Group B Strep International. It became more than an organization to me. It became a community that helped me understand what had happened and gave me a way to transform grief into advocacy.
As we begin this discussion for the HIFA community, I’d like to start with a question I think many parents would ask.
What is the one thing about Group B Strep that you wish every pregnant woman and every healthcare professional understood?
Thank you,
Kelli Smith
