The NIHR Global Health Research Professorship

Global Advanced Fellowship

support researchers at different career stages to become future leaders in global health research.

The Global Health Research Professorship is aimed at individuals on track to become research leaders, with an outstanding record in public health, health or care research. The Global Advanced Fellowship supports postdoctoral researchers to develop leadership capability and become research leaders.

Both awards support applied global health research, training and capacity strengthening, focusing on infectious diseases of poverty and delivering direct benefits in eligible countries across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

Applications for both the Global Health Research Professorship and the Global Advanced Fellowship close on 30 June 2026.

About NIHR

The NIHR Global Health Research Portfolio uses UK aid to fund high-quality applied health research and training in areas of unmet need. We fund research in countries eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA).

About the schemes

The Global Health Research Professorship supports future research leaders to deliver impactful research that benefits LMICs.

The Global Advanced Fellowship supports postdoctoral researchers to develop leadership skills and advance their careers in global health research.

Both awards support applied global health research, training and capacity strengthening, focusing on infectious diseases of poverty and delivering direct benefits in eligible countries across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

We welcome applications from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including clinical and non-clinical researchers.
