WHO Bulletin: Jackeline Alger: building capacity in the face of disruption

19 July, 2023

Dear colleagues,

HIFA regional coordinator for the Americas, Jackeline Alger is featured in a 2-page interview in this month's WHO bulletin. Read here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10300771/pdf/BLT.23.030723.pdf

Extract: "Q: You clearly value networks highly. Can you cite some in which you are active? A: I already mentioned my ties with the networks linked with CIDEIM and Tulane, but I would also include... Healthcare Information for All (HIFA) which is part of the Research4Life initiative. I was voted HIFA Country Representative of the Year in 2015 and 2018, which was a great honour." (Jackeline and I note an error here: HIFA is not part of Research4Life - the latter is a global initiative that provides institutions in low-and middle-income countries with online access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content.)

On behalf of HIFA, congratulations to Jackeline and our thanks for her invaluable support to HIFA over many years, including: country representative for Honduras (she has single-handedly attracted more than 300 members from her country - far more than a lot of countries with much larger populations); regional coordinator for country representatives across the Americas; and lead moderator for HIFA-Spanish.

HIFA profile: Neil Pakenham-Walsh is coordinator of HIFA (Healthcare Information For All), a global health community that brings all stakeholders together around the shared goal of universal access to reliable healthcare information. HIFA has 20,000 members in 180 countries, interacting in four languages and representing all parts of the global evidence ecosystem. HIFA is administered by Global Healthcare Information Network, a UK-based nonprofit in official relations with the World Health Organization. Email: neil@hifa.org
