[Re: https://www.hifa.org/dgroups-rss/will-you-become-hifa-personal-donor-today ]
Further to our appeal a few days ago I would like to thank HIFA members eborah Van Dyke and Jessie McGowan for their one-off donations to HIFA. Indeed Deborah has been supporting HIFA for several years. Their names are recognised on our website: see https://www.hifa.org/support/donate (HIFA personal donations).
Our thanks again to Julie Reza, who became our 21st monthly personal donor. She wrote: "I'm struck by the idea that if a relatively small number of HIFA's members contribute, it can make a significant difference to HIFA’s sustainability."
Indeed, I have just reviewed our list of personal donors and this shows that our entire existence (20 years) has been sustained by just 61 HIFA members (plus a few who preferred to remain anonymous). Their names are listed at the above URL. The rest of us - 20,000 members in 180 countries - are grateful for your generosity.
As mentioned in our appeal, we currently have 20 regular (monthly) donors who give £5, £10, £20 or more per month. And we receive around 10 one-off donations each year. We are grateful to you all.
Together these personal donors contribute 20% of our total income, funding all our activities: forums, projects, advocacy and collaboration plan with WHO. As a reminder of what we do (beyond this forum) see https://www.hifa.org/about-hifa
Like many organisations in global health, our total income has taken a hit during the past 18 months. It was previously around £40,000 per year, which was enough to sustain us although not enough to engage new staff. Our total income now is just £27,000 per year.
The reason for the reduction in income is due largely to reduced funding for HIFA projects (our sponsored thematic discussions). For example, the World Health Organization was one of our main project sponsors, but their own funding has been severely reduced, having knock-on effects on HIFA. HIFA projects, costed at £3,000 upwards, are no longer affordable for many of our sponsors. With this in mind we shall shortly be launching a new, more affordable service called HIFA Spotlights. Watch this space!
Finally, I appeal again to all members to consider becoming a HIFA personal donor. We look forward to welcoming our 22nd monthly donor and hopefully double our number to 40 in the coming weeks.
