World Breastfeeding Week 2020 - starts 1 August Advocacy on formula advertising(6)

4 August, 2020

Dear Tony and friends, my request of having a picture of a cow and calf responds to the need of informing people, correctly so.

In years of pediatrics in several countries (Africa and Asia) I noticed that lay people as well as health workers do ignore the provenance of formula milk. They did never pose such question to themselves. It is enough to see that it is sold in pharmacies, therefore it should be safe, with ‘special' components in it. When they are told that it is cow's milk deprived of water, with less proteins and additional sugar they are surprised, cannot accept.

IBFAN took years before obtaining that on tins of formula milk one should not see the picture of a healthy/florid baby. Why are they reluctant to obtain further and correct information? “This milk comes from the cow here shown, it has been adapted to your baby's

needs but it lacks the myriad of qualities of your milk" And also : “Brain of a calf is deeply different from the brain of your baby".

My final comment: it surprises me much the fact that dominant opinion about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) is deeply

negative while nobody seems concerned that newborns of the world can be fed with the milk of another animal, the sole aliment for a period of his/her fastest growing in life. Monsanto is perceived as a Devil...Nestle' is perceived as Saint.
