Access to reliable healthcare information is even more important to raise awareness in patients (and communities): Martha's Rule

17 July, 2026

Dear HIFA Colleagues,

Martha’s Rule is an initiative designed to improve patient safety.

It gives patients and their relatives the right to request an immediate, independent medical assessment at any time of the day or night if they feel the patient’s condition is deteriorating and the hospital staff treating them are not responding adequately.

Following a pilot phase, the Children’s Hospital of Central Switzerland is the first institution in the country to introduce Martha’s Rule on a permanent basis. This means parents will have a greater say when they have serious concerns about their child’s health.
