The Japanese Society for Social Medicine was developed from the former Research Society for Social Medicine started in 1960 and renamed in 1999. At present, the society has several hundred members who are engaged in the diverse areas of welfare and education as well as health care. Purpose: This society aims to promote and develop various research projects on theoretical aspects of social medicine and their application through cooperation among members. Activities: 1) General scientific meeting (held once a year) 2) Official journal of Bulletin of Social Medicine 3) Letter of Social Medicine (issued three times a year)
