Advocacy on infant formula advertising(13)

7 August, 2020

Dear ALL,

i would like to add two more suggestions, if possible:

* lactating mothers do need all the support, not only extra-nutrition but also mental, emotional, social support, including the possibility of some more hours to sleep (when they have someone to clean the house, the garments, preparing food, taking care of the other children) it helps also when the father is there > a legal right (at least!) or someone of the family> the maternal grand mother or an aunt or someone of the family are the most helpful relative

* health education, including public campaigns around breast feeding is a MUST and requires not only resources, like out-doors but also films, videos, lectures, media-professionals learning and even as a subject in schools and universities about breast feeding as a health right and the best investment for future health of children, decreasing health problems and even violence prevention (!)/ I would also include social support groups and human milk-banks for mothers who would like to breast feed their babies/

But i was appaled and disgusted with this sentence, quoted by Nicholas Cunningham:

" Expecting profit oriented international corporations to put the needs of babies or impoverished moms ahead of their obligations to their stock holders as expressed by their quarterly earnings, is unrealistic and foolish"

and i would like to add exactly the SECOND suggestion to> stake holders< should also LEARN and BE INFORMED and EDUCATED about children´s health rights and lactating mothers health rights to breast feed their babies//

It is time, to have MORE investments on health opinions around the world, including prevention and social protection of children! BTW there is also the IPA, the International Pediatric Association and other scientific and health associations which would support such campaigns/
