HIFA Projects (32) How HIFA adds value to health systems research - Case study: mHealth-Innovate

16 March, 2025

Dear HIFA colleagues,

I'm delighted to share a 3-minute video from Claire Glenton on mHealth-Innovate, a case study on how HIFA adds value to health systems research:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNhVu5b8nnc

mHealth-Innovate explores the informal use of mobile phones by health workers and HIFA's collaboration with Norway, Uganda and others is ongoing. More to follow in a separate message.

In the video Claire Glenton, Principal Investigator, notes:

"HIFA has played a key role in the mHealth-Innovate research project:

- Useful supplement to more formal research processes. Formal processes are often slow, shaped by the researcher, and limited to specific settings

- Opportunity to discuss topics quickly with healthcare workers, managers and policy makers from many settings worldwide

- Open space where people from all levels of the system can discuss topics informally and on their own terms"

There are three types of HIFA Projects: Topic-based; Research-based; and WHO-based, as described at www.hifa.projects . mHealth-Innovate is an example of a Research-based Project.

Using HIFA as a platform to complement large health systems research projects is an innovative approach that we have been implementing since 2021 and we believe it has huge potential. We invite researchers to consider including a budget line for HIFA in future funding proposals.

With thanks to Claire and the mHealth-Innovate team.
