Partnership Opportunity: Real-Time NCD Surveillance System in Africa

14 November, 2025

Dear HIFA Community,

I hope this message finds you well.

We are launching an ambitious initiative to build Africa's first facility-level, real-time NCD surveillance infrastructure, and we are seeking non-profit and research organizations to partner with us.

The Challenge: Despite NCDs becoming Africa's leading cause of death by 2030, health officials operate with 3-5 year old data at national levels—unable to identify local hotspots or track intervention effectiveness in real-time.

Our Solution: We are deploying a lightweight electronic health records system across primary healthcare facilities in multiple African countries. This dual-purpose system improves clinical NCD care while generating real-time, facility-level surveillance data that has never existed before.

Partnership Opportunities:

We are seeking organizations that:

• Conduct NCD research or programs in sub-Saharan Africa

• Have established relationships with Ministries of Health and primary healthcare facilities

• Are interested in improving NCD data infrastructure in their countries

• Can support facility recruitment, community engagement, and local implementation

What We Offer Partners:

• Funding support for partnership activities and local coordination

• Co-investigator roles on a multi-year, multi-country research project

• Access to unique facility-level NCD clinical datasets for research

• Co-authorship opportunities on publications

• Capacity building: Training for your staff in digital health and advanced epidemiological methods

• Technical infrastructure that benefits your ongoing NCD programs

Countries of Interest (Stage 1-2): Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and others

Timeline:

• Now - Month 6: Partner selection and project setup

• Months 7-18: Stage 1 pilot (30+ facilities, 2 countries)

• Months 19-36: Stage 2 expansion (100 facilities, 5 countries)

Project Principles:

1. Clinical value first: systems that help healthcare workers, not burden them

2. Local ownership: government partnerships from day one

3. Evidence-based: rigorous evaluation at each stage

4. Open source: all code and materials publicly available

5. Sustainability: designed for government adoption post-grant

Next Steps:

If your organization is interested in exploring partnership opportunities, please reply to this email or contact me directly at [your email] with:

1. Your organization name and country of operation

2. Brief description of your NCD work in Africa (2-3 sentences)

3. Your interest in partnering (facility access, research collaboration, technical expertise, etc.)

We will schedule exploratory calls with interested organizations over the next 6-8 weeks.

We believe real-time, granular NCD data can transform how Africa responds to the NCD crisis. We invite you to join us in building this critical infrastructure.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Emmanuel Obasuyi
