In his opening address at the 2025 STM Conference in Frankfurt, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called on the publishing community to strengthen its commitment to equity: “I thank the publishers who are part of this initiative and I invite those who are not to join to put the power of science in more hands.”

His words underscore what’s at stake: “At a time of rampant mis and disinformation, it’s vital that we communicate science to the public to build understanding and trust. Above all, scientific publishing must be a tool to promote equity and a healthier, safer, fairer world for everyone.”
