Webinar: Disaster risk factors (hazards, exposure and vulnerability) for decision making in Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management (Health EDRM), 18 February

10 February, 2022

Join Evidence Aid on Friday 18 February at 1-2pm GMT for our free webinar on Disaster risk factors (hazards, exposure and vulnerability) for decision making in Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management (Health EDRM).

The webinar will provide guidance on Disaster risk factors (hazards, exposure and vulnerability) relevant to Health EDRM, and will be led by Dell Saulnier and Ana Raquel Nunes. Dell is a postdoctoral fellow in the Social Medicine and Global Health group at Lund University, Sweden. She is a global health researcher working in public health and health systems in disasters. Her work focuses on the health impacts of extreme weather events and on health systems resilience to disasters in low- and middle-income countries. Ana is an Assistant Professor in Environmental Public Health in the Warwick Medical School at the University of Warwick. Her mixed methods research focuses on three main areas: understanding vulnerability, resilience and adaptation to extreme weather events (e.g. heatwaves, cold weather, drought, wildfires); sources and drivers of the health effects of extreme weather events; and the links between sustainable development, extreme weather events, health and wellbeing.

It will feature Chapter 3.2 from the WHO Guidance on Research Methods for Health EDRM and discuss:

How hazards, exposure, and vulnerability/capacity create disaster risk.

The unique challenges of defining, identifying and measuring risk in disaster research.

Common issues of validity and quality in causal research in disasters.

How to conduct a study to assess disaster risk factors.
