Coronavirus (1408) COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy in Africa - Reimagining the role of key messengers in both traditional and social media - Thursday December 9th, 2021 at 1pm UTC / GMT.
As at September 2021, less than 4% of Africa’s population has been fully vaccinated, compared with 54% of the US and about 65% of the UK. Low vaccination rates in Africa can be explained by a myriad of reasons – lack of a sustainable supply of vaccines, weak healthcare systems, funding limitations, lack of widespread availability of cold chain storage and distribution systems, and low political will.

Coronavirus (1404) Nature: World commits to a pandemic response pact: what's next (2) BMJ papers on global pandemic treaty
We noted yesterday that the article in Nature suggests the pact is focused mainly on equitable distribution of diagnostics, drugs and vaccines. But the BMJ EDitor's Choice by Fiona Godlee, and the BMJ blog by WHO Secretary-General Dr Tedros make clear that this is about 'all facets of pandemic prevention, preparation, and response'. Dr Tedros notes that current mechanisms are 'inadequate, particularly in our digital world'.

Coronavirus (1404) Nature: World commits to a pandemic response pact: what's next (2)
Indeed, the efforts continue to produce more vaccines and distribute/sell them, equally or not equally is another subject. The biggest problem has been the misinformation. It has been said many times by many experts that the misinformation has been more dangerous than the virus itself and that sharing the bad news and exchanging rumors have more effect on people than the virus itself. Leaders of this world that are getting together to create another group are failing once again to deal with the real issue. Information information information. Thank you. Najeeb Al-Shorbaji
